FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Friendswood police said they arrested a 38-year-old mother and her 20-year-old son, among others, for hosting an raucous, underage drinking house party on July 7.
Around 2 a.m., an officer was on patrol in the Analea subdivision when he noticed what appeared to be a disturbance in the front yard of a house in the 500 block of Stadium Lane.
It allegedly turned out to be an underage drinking party, and the officer said he saw drugs and alcohol paraphernalia in the garage, which was open.
Janna Marie Soler and Marcus Anthony Soler were the hosts of the party, according to police.
Marcus, who was celebrating his birthday, told KPRC 2 News that his mother, Janna, stayed in her bedroom during the party, and she had no knowledge that minors were partaking in drugs and alcohol.
"I told her to stay in her room, because it was my 20th birthday, and I didn't want her to come out, I don't want to be embarrassed. I said I promise they're won't be any drinking or anything," Anthony said.
Once inside the house, police said they found more alcohol and drug paraphernalia, as well as underage people drinking alcohol.
Janna and Marcus were taken into custody and charged with violating the open party ordinance.
Police said that Elias Cade Ybarra, 21, of Porter, and Jeremy Douglas Taylor, 17, of Friendswood, were found with crushed up pills separated into lines in front of them. Taylor allegedly had a rolled-up dollar bill, which police believe he was going to use to snort up the powdered pills. Ybarra is accused of having had 49 Xanax pills on him. Ybarra was charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 3, and Taylor was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Devon Mitchell Bauman Garcia, 20, of Houston, was charged with minor in possession of alcohol, minor in consumption of alcohol and interfering with the duties of a public servant. Police said Garcia was creating a scene and distracting officers as they were trying to identify everyone at the residence.
Alejandro Enrique Mendez, 19, of Friendswood, was charged with minor in possession of alcohol and minor in consumption of alcohol.
"I definitely learned my lesson, and she learned her lesson for taking my word on certain things," Soler said. "I take full responsibility for the party, and I can tell she did not know anything about it."
