Woman sued over bad online review

HOUSTON – A woman posted negative comments about a law firm online after she says she was hit by a drunken driver and tried to get an attorney.

She says the firm she initially hired was dragging its feet.

"He emailed me, and said, 'I saw what you wrote on social media and I need you to remove it right now,'" Lan Cai said.

The 20-year-old is now on the receiving end of a defamation lawsuit because of what a Richmond resident posted on a Facebook community forum and other places, then refused to remove.

"Because she put disparaging remarks online and she was telling half truths," Keith Nguyen said.

He said his southwest Houston law firm, which for a few days represented Cai in a car accident suit, has been harmed by the outspoken, unhappy customer who he claims is slinging spurious status updates.

"I posted a review on Facebook, Yelp, Google. I posted that, 'Please don't go to this law firm because of what they did to me,'" Cai said.

In short, Cai found the law firm unprofessional, and online she launched into the reasons how she came to that conclusion.

"They came to my house and into my room to talk to me when I was in my underwear," Cai said.

"What's false about that? They came. We were invited in," Nguyen said.

"They didn't know where the hell my car was," Cai said.

Nguyen says that's false. The firm maintains they did know where her car was.

A Fort Bend city judge will have to hash out if the firm has a case. They're asking for between $100,000-$200,000 in damages.
