Son charged with murder in shooting death of father in north Harris County

Patrick Dyer held on $75,000 bond

SPRING, Texas – A 58-year-old father was shot and killed Tuesday by his son during a domestic dispute in north Harris County, deputies said.

Patrick Dyer, 22, was arrested  and charged with murder in connection with the death of his father, Duey Dyer.

"It appears the suspect does have a history of substance abuse and family violence," Hickman said.

"There were holes in the wall where chairs were thrown and stuck. The kid was pretty violent,” said Travis Goldsmith, a contractor who said he was working to patch up the holes inside the home. There was never an indication he was going to shoot his father."

Investigators said Patrick Dyer and his father got into an argument around 3 a.m. at a home in the 3100 block of Flaming Candle. At some point during the argument, it appeared Patrick Dyer pinned down his father and shot him in the head, police said. Patrick Dyer then left the home in a car and went to the Conroe area, where he crashed the vehicle, investigators said. He called his girlfriend to pick him up and she brought him back to the home, according to officials.

Hickman said another argument broke out in front of the home that woke the neighbors and the neighbors called 911. Officers arrived and found the father dead inside the home.

Patrick Dyer didn't appear in court Wednesday, but prosecutors read the charge against him. They said he confessed to the shooting.

"He said that he was involved in a verbal argument with his father that turned physical, said he just couldn't take it anymore and shot his father from across the room. When he saw he was moving, he decided to put his father out of his misery and to shoot him two more times," the prosecutor said.
