HOUSTON – Several hours after a Monday afternoon deadly shooting, the crime scene tape was still up and several police officers were still on the scene.
The young man who was killed was identified by relatives as 21-year-old Treyvon Woods, who went by Tre Tre. An acquaintance of his was in the hospital undergoing surgery.
Sanatana Daniels, a cousin of Woods, said: "We ain't taking it well but we're keeping our head high. That's all it is."
Relatives say Woods was a rapper who was always looking out for others.
"He gave back to the 'hood, bought the 'hood ice cream. He loved the kids. Positive, outgoing person," Daniels said.
Officers say the shooting happened in the courtyard area of the Reserve at Bankside Apartments around 3:30 p.m.
Several grieving relatives arrived as police continued their search for whoever is responsible for the shooting.
Seems like there was an altercation in the back of the complex," Ken Fregia, an HPD homicide detective, said. "Right now we don't have any suspects."
Many neighbors could only look on, terrified after hearing over a dozen gunshots and seeing a body only feet away from a playground.
"By being near the playground any of the kids could've been hit," Tonette Jeffrey, a neighbor, said. "Thank God it was a school day because any kids could've been out there playing."
Police still don't have a motive in the case, but are interviewing several witnesses.
The victim's family says they trying to stay strong for one another.
"Lost a cousin, but you know we going to keep our head up and keep what he had going to keep it going and flowing, you know," Daniels said.
