HOUSTON – Some high school students in Pearland are learning some tough lessons through the battle of their teacher's family in Pearland.
Jeremy Duff -- an IT specialist at NASA -- is fighting a rare form of leukemia.
"He's the best dad I could ever want for my children," says his wife Jenna Duff. "He's the best husband. We started dating in high school and after a few months we knew we wanted to get married."
Jenna Duff is a teacher at Shadowcreek High School, and when her students found out the family needed money for a clinical trial, the kids were determined to help.
"Everybody's just trying to get involved with it, help out, because it really means a lot to them," says student Steven Avila. "It's their family."
The students started an effort to help the husband and father of two raise the remainder of the $35,000 needed to complete the clinical trial. It is research seeking a cure for leukemia -- and the return of Jeremy to a normal life.
"For the last six months he's been working from home and going into office," says Jenna. "If his white counts are high enough and his immune system is high enough, then he can go and be around people. He can go in the office."
As the Duff family deals with their own trial -- the help they're receiving is giving strength and teaching important lessons.
"Come together as a group when you're going through something tough," says Jenna. "Find the positive in that and see what you can make out of it."
Students are helping the family with a GoFundMe account. If you'd like to help, please follow this link.
