Search resumes for missing University of Houston student

HOUSTON – Texas EquuSearch is asking for the public's help in finding a missing University of Houston student.

An Vinh Nguyen, 27, was last seen on the evening of March 31, wearing a light yellow t-shirt.

A spokesperson for the university said he is a student at the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

On Thursday volunteers continued searching in thick, heavily wooded areas along FM 1960.

Equusearch started their search for the missing UH student more than two weeks ago.

"We're searching on foot and ATV. Were going in fields, woods, any place that An could be," Frank Black said.

In the last two days, volunteers have focused on fields and wooded areas near FM 1960 and the North Freeway.

Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office asked volunteers to search that area.

On Wednesday volunteers were on foot and on ATVs searching several fields and wooded areas near Imperial Valley, FM 1960 and the Hardy Toll Road.

Their crew was limited though, after rain flooded Director Tim Miller's home in Santa Fe on Tuesday. Many people were helping with cleanup efforts.

Equusearch said they’re still focused on their mission of finding Nguyen.

“We’re not able to cover as large area and if it takes longer, we’ll take longer. We’ll do it. We’ll get the job done,” said Black with Texas Equusearch. “The main thing is that we find him. So many people across America are never found and we just hope that he can be found and we’re gonna do our best.”

Nguyen was said to be driving an orange 2016 four-door Jeep Renegade. Deputies confirm they found his Jeep last Friday, but still no sign of him.

Nguyen's brother said Wednesday morning their family was devastated by his disappearance.

Officials said it is out of character for Nguyen to disappear. He was supposed to fly to Florida Sunday April 2 to begin flight attendant training for Spirit airlines.

Officials ask anyone with information about Nguyen's whereabouts to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office or Texas EquuSearch at 281-309-9500.
