The hospital has stopped accepting new admissions and is relocating patients who require continuing care to nearby hospitals.

"The decision has no impact on our other area Kindred hospitals. We are always evaluating our portfolio and looking for opportunities to reposition our assets so that we can provide services where and when patients need it most," spokeswoman Stephanie Madrid said in a statement.

Town and Country currently has 133 employees that the company said will be assisted in finding new positions as well as positions within Kindred.

"Our goal is to retain as many of our valuable employees as possible, and we anticipate being able to retain the bedside caregivers," Madrid said.

In 2016, Kindred consolidated the Medical Center Holcombe and Baytown locations into area Kindred locations. Madrid said the company retained approximately 80 percent full-time employees at the Halcombe location and 50 percent from the Baytown location.

Kindred has eight long-term acute care hospitals in the Houston market and two inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. It also provides home health, hospice and non-medical home care.

The company expects the closure and relocation to be completed by June 27.
