SUV hits, kills father, injures another during neighborhood party, officials say

CONROE, Texas – A father was killed and another man was injured in a hit-and-run Sunday morning in New Caney, officials said.

The incident was reported around midnight in the 15000 block of Emerald Court.

Investigators said a family was celebrating a girl's 16th birthday when unwanted guests crashed the party and a fight broke out.

As the unwanted guests backed out of the driveway, party goers threw rocks at the gray Chevrolet Suburban, investigators said. The driver hit a vehicle, a fence and then at least four people, officials said.

Two men were taken to Conroe Regional Hospital in critical condition, where Ray Jasso, 29, died.

Officials said the other man was in stable condition and was released from the hospital.

The two other victims were not seriously injured, investigators said.

At the time of the crash Jasso, who lived around the corner and had attended the party earlier, was standing outside firing off fireworks with his 8-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.

Eyewitnesses told Channel 2 Investigates that the driver of that Suburban hit Jasso once and then came back and ran over him again.

“I lost my kid. I really need the people to help me to get justice done. I’d like to see them go to jail for life,” said Jasso's father, Santiago Jasso.

Police said the hit-and run-driver is believed to be a woman with a male passenger.

Officials said the woman is described as having long, curly reddish hair.

Witnesses told police the man has a star tattoo on his right cheek and another tattoo on his left cheek.

They said he has several tattoos all over his body.

After several tips and with the help of social media, investigators found the SUV abandoned Tuesday, police said.

The Suburban was taken to the Montgomery County crime lab for evidence.

Santiago Jasso said he wants the people responsible to be arrested and charged.

“If anybody see anything, anybody see something, please let us know. Help me get justice for my son,” Santiago Jasso said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5871 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
