PEARLAND, Texas – Do you like animals? Do you have any pets? Or maybe you’re in need after Hurricane Harvey. Or perhaps you just want to help.

Pearland Pets is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that’s trying to get the word out: The group is asking for donations and volunteers -- and wants to help anyone in the community who is in need.

The pet food bank will provide pet food, toys, treats, collars, leashes and anything else pet-related to people who could use those items.

But before the food bank can open, workers there need to get it stocked and staffed with volunteers.

Starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Pearland Pets will take donations of pet food, treats and new and used items (such as toys, leashes, collars, beds and litter boxes). Officials said they need things for dogs and cats -- everything except pet carriers.

Donations will be collected Thursday and Friday to stock the food bank and get it organized.

People in need are invited to swing by on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Donations will be accepted through Monday.

Volunteer opportunities are open to adults and responsible teenagers, ages 15 and older. Some positions require the lifting of pet food bags, which can weigh about 20 to 30 pounds.

Pearland Pets is next door to the Pearland Animal Shelter at 2002 Old Alvin Road. People coming to the food bank are advised to first go to the animal shelter, and you’ll be directed to the drop-off or pick-up location next door.

The donation hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Monday.

Pick-up hours are the same, Saturday through Monday.

Here are some additional pet food bank donation drop-off locations (all in Pearland):

- Pearland Pet Health Center at 10525 Hughes Ranch Road
- Pearland Animal Hospital at 1601 N. Main St.
- Claws & Paws Veterinary Hospital at 2556 E. Broadway St.
- Pearland 288 Animal Emergency Clinic at 10100 Broadway St. Suite 102

Additional collection sites will be added as they come available.
