HOUSTON – A cleanup crew was hard at work at Herod Elementary School in Meyerland Thursday, tossing out furniture and other items that got soaked.
But they weren’t being thrown out because they were damaged by floodwaters during Harvey.
In fact, the campus didn’t flood at all during the storm.
Part of the school got flooded after a fire suppression pipe inside the building burst.
The school principal discovered less than a foot of water inside the building when she arrived early Wednesday morning.
Several first-floor classrooms took on water.
Students and staff were redirected to Meyerland Middle School as large pieces of equipment were brought in to help dry out the building as the city and HISD make the necessary repairs.
It’s a major inconvenience compounded by the fact that many of the parents with children who attend Herod had their homes flooded during Harvey.
Students are expected to return to Herod on Monday, but the Houston Independent School District said it will provide parents with an update on the situation Friday.
