SAN ANTONIO – A 51-year-old man is facing charges after an infant in his home reportedly showed signs of being exposed to methamphetamine.
Bexar County Sheriff's Office investigators had trouble locating Alejandro Aleman Sr. at first, but they eventually caught up with him and arrested him Monday. Aleman is charged with endangering a child.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Aleman dropped off the infant and his wife at a hospital Wednesday after the baby began exhibiting unusual behavior, including shaky hands.
Doctors determined the child had been exposed to methamphetamine, the affidavit said.
Detectives questioned Aleman's wife, who is the mother of the child, and she admitted that she and Aleman had used the illegal drug at home, the affidavit said.
The woman told detectives that she always consumes drugs she purchases right away, and keeps her drug paraphernalia out of the reach of her children, the affidavit said.
But when investigators searched the home in the 10600 block of Barbwire Pass, they found paraphernalia, including uncapped hypodermic needles, out in the open, the affidavit said.
There is no mention in the affidavit of how the infant may have come into contact with the drug.
There was another young child living in the home, but it appears he's in custody of a relative.
