Theta Design Weekend comes to GRB

HOUSTON – It's not just your grandmother's shopping trip anymore. Antique shows can have some of the latest fashion trends that can spruce up any room in your house for all ages.

This weekend, you can shop all the home décor you want at Theta Design Weekend inside the George R. Brown Convention Center and help give back to deserving Texas charities.

The event formerly known as Theta Charity Antiques Show has raised over $7 million since it began 65 years ago. This year it's being rebranded as Theta Design Weekend.

Organizers hope to attract younger crowds and let everyone know they can find really cool, hip and unique pieces for everyone on their Christmas list.

"It makes the juxtaposition so interesting when you have something new and something old. It's so great," Hallie Henley Sims with Hallie Henley Design said.

For more than 60 years, the Theta Charity Antiques Show has attracted thousands of people from all over the country. It has showcased hundreds of unique antiques and raised millions for charity.
But it's not just for the older generation anymore.

"You can come as some 20-something for your first apartment or you can come with your mother or grandmother and find a great antique that everyone can go and leave with a wonderful treasure," Sims said.

Some of those treasures can include an eclectic piece of art, a rare piece of furniture, a decorative mantel piece. This year the show is being revamped, and everyone from young teens to 30 somethings are sure to find something they will love.

"Design is not just for a certain demographic of people, it's everybody is aware of it, it's so visual," Sims said.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to several charities including the Texas Children's Cancer Center, the Bayou Bend Collection, and Child Advocates.

The event begins Friday at 10 a.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. It goes until Sunday.

General admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
