HOUSTON – Residents of the Houston area spent the night under a blanket of snow Thursday.
The snow started falling around 6 p.m. and continued until 11 p.m. The snowfall left the Brazos Valley coated in a blanket of white flurries.

The sudden snowfall was enough to trigger an impromptu sale at College Station Ford dealership.
"Right now, for the next hour, any vehicle with snow on it, an additional $1,000 off. Come down, brave the snow, I'll even make you a little snow man!" Curtis Whittaker posted on social media.

From there, the snow moved south and east toward the Houston area. An accident closed the ramp at I-10 and the Grand Parkway. Not far away, an 18-wheeler got stuck. Then, an accident shut down 610 at 59. TXDOT worked to treat the ramps and roads.
Winter weather precautions closed most of the major flyovers on the Sam Houston Tollway. That slowed some morning drives to work.

"I knew it was going to be cold. I didn't know it was going to be this cold,” one driver said.
Snow made the day for some students at Rydel Robison Elementary School in Cypress. The Sky 2 helicopter spotted students who had a chance to go outside and play in the snow for a few minutes.

HISD and Spring ISD both had regular hours Friday. HISD Superintendent Richard Carranza said administrators were up all night watching the weather.

"We have to look at the entire district and make those calculations based on the entirety of the district," Carranza said.
