Line breach at La Porte gas facility prompts reports of explosion

LA PORTE, Texas – What officials called a "line breach" Wednesday at a gas facility in La Porte prompted reports of an explosion.

According to a post on the city of La Porte's Facebook page, fire and ambulance crews are responded to a gas facility on Strang Road.

A later post said that a high-pressure release happened about 11:30 a.m. at the Linde Gas facility and that workers immediately shut down the unit that caused the release.

The company later sent the following statement:

"At approximately 11:30 a.m. CST today, there was a line breach at the Linde gases plant located at 11603 Strang Road in La Porte. The breach resulted in a loud noise.

"The plant was shut down and has been secured. The release of gases has been stopped, and there is no risk to the surrounding community.

"First responders were notified and alerted emergency services in the area. 

"All employees are safe and accounted for, and there are no reported injuries.

"Emergency responders have left the scene. The incident is under investigation."

Several people have also called the KPRC 2 Newsroom and reported hearing an explosion in the Baytown area.

Baytown officials said there was no threat to the city.

No injuries were reported.
