HOUSTON – A retired University of Houston professor just competed with her black poodle in the Westminster dog show in New York.

Donna Fox is 89 years old and continues to have a full schedule of canine competing ahead of her. She's been competing with her pooches since the 1950s, said she was the “oldest person with the littlest dog” in the obedience competition at Westminster.

“It was an experience,” she said. “It’s sort of being invited to the Academy Awards and you don’t win. It was fun. My little dog was overcome by the whole thing.”

Fox said the turf at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was “spiky” and “squishy.”

“It was fine, but oh my goodness,” she said. “It was an honor to be there.”

Fox said the same competitor has dominated the obedience event for years, but she and others tried their best.

You can watch Fox’s performance with her little black poodle in the video below. She begins around the 6:14 mark.
