Katy Mills Mall renovations revealed

KATY, Texas – Katy Mills Mall is getting a makeover.

A multimillion-dollar initiative to make improvements to the shopping mall was announced Thursday morning.

Mall officials said it's time to get rid of the retro look inside, so instead of the bright colors, neutral colors will cover the walls.

There are also plans to overhaul the dining area and plans to build a new playground.

"Katy Mills' renovation is a highly-anticipated project and an investment in the local market," James Ross, general manager for Katy Mills, said. "These improvements are designed with our shoppers and retailers in mind, and we look forward to sharing this new and refined shopping experience with the community."

The mall features more than 175 stores, all of which will remain open during the project.

"Katy Mills is a financial engine for the City of Katy, and we appreciate Simon investing in renovations and the reimaging of the mall. The City of Katy is honored to be partnering with Simon to ensure Katy Mills continues to be successful into the future," Byron Hebert, city administrator for the City of Katy, said.

Here's a list of the renovation plans:

  • The food court will be updated and redesigned into a new dining pavilion featuring a new color palette, new furniture, family-style seating, new porcelain tile flooring and LED lighting.
  • New lounge areas with soft seating.
  • Improved lighting with illuminated ceiling fixtures featuring LED lighting.
  • An updated children’s play area.
  • Fresh, neutral paint.
  • New porcelain tile flooring.
  • Improved signage to help shoppers locate stores, restaurants and entertainment.

Renovations are scheduled to start this month and are expected to be completed in time for the holiday season later this year.
