HOUSTON – Houstonians, Texans and Americans are reacting to the news of former first lady Barbara Bush’s declining health.
“I hope she gets well,” said Genaro Martinez. “She can’t leave us now. She needs to stay alive. We need people like her.”
People say part of Bush's popularity is her reliability and devotion to family.
“She was kind of everyone’s grandmother,” said Natalie Wood, who said Bush has always been a part of her life.
Many offered well-wishes for the entire Bush family.
“Definitely our condolences," said Cheryl Choate, of California, who was visiting Houston on Sunday. "We wish the family all the blessings that they’ve been able to provide for the country through their service."
