Man shot in head trying to break up argument at SW Houston apartments, police say

HOUSTON – A man was shot to death Friday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in southwest Houston.

Police said the victim, identified as Hector Martin Rodriguez, had just come home from work when he heard a commotion outside his home, at the Windsor Park Apartments in the 7900 block of Creekbend. He told his wife he was going to investigate, police said.

“He’s coming out to see what’s going on, especially since he just got home and he’s a little bit more alert than everybody else here," said Detective Shaun Sylvester, with the Houston Police Department. "It’s late at night; probably most people are asleep at that time.”

Someone reported hearing Rodriguez say, "Hey, do y'all need help?"

“They didn’t hear any scuffle; they didn’t hear anything going on. They just heard him ask them if they needed help actually and after that, he walked down and then the gunshots went off,” Sylvester said.

Investigators said Martinez, 33, was shot once in the head and once in the abdomen.

His wife found him dead in the parking lot, according to police.

Police said two men were seen running from the scene.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
