KATY, Texas – A man is charged with murder after he is accused of stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend after a fight at a home in Katy, deputies said.
Godson Akran, 38, is charged with murder.
The investigation started about 5 a.m. at 3700 Daintree Park Court in the Tammarron neighborhood.
Maj. Chad Norvell, a spokesman for the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators believe the Akran came to the home, got into a fight with her new boyfriend, identified as Taofeek Anifata, and left the scene.
Akran came back later and stabbed Anifata in front of three children in the dining area of the home, Norvell said. Anifata, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The children are ages 2, 4 and 12. They are all OK, authorities said.
"It all happened pretty quick. She called 911 when they began arguing at the door. He left but then came immediately back. He opened the door, came inside and then got a knife from her kitchen and fought with the new boyfriend and stabbed him inside the dining area," Norvell said.
Akran and the woman had been separated for about two years and he's the father of two of her three children, Norvell said.
Norvell said Akran was arrested after a traffic stop a couple miles away on FM Road 1463.
"This is such a terrible and terrifying incident, especially in front of children," Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls. "The children and family will need our thoughts and prayers, and thankfully we are able to hold someone accountable for this heinous crime."
Akran remains in the Fort Bend County Jail.
