HOUSTON – On this date in 2005, Houston's beloved theme park, Astroworld, shut down for good.

Astroworld first opened on June 1, 1968. It provided decades of fun for the young and old alike.

Just ask any Houstonian, the thrills off the 610 South Loop feeder were endless -- from the epic roller coasters Greezed Lightnin', The Viper, and the Texas Tornado, to Thunder River, the ride sure to soak you from head to toe.

Even though it's no longer there, Astroworld lives on in the memories of nostalgic Houstonians. There are Facebook pages dedicated to the park. At least one documentary has been made about it.

And do an Ebay search at any given time, you will find mementos for sale from all over the world. Some of the most expensive items up for bid when we searched were an Astroworld antique taxi listed for $7,500 and an Astroworld water wheel for $2,500.
