Woman severely burned in Spring house fire dies, officials say

SPRING, Texas – A 68-year-old woman is dead after she was severely burned in a house fire Sunday afternoon in Spring, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.

The fire was reported around 6 p.m. in the 22500 block of Leafygate Drive.

The woman was inside the home upon firefighters' arrival at the scene. Firefighters rushed in, despite the overwhelming heat from the fire.

“Once they went back inside, they did find one victim. She was in very critical condition,” said Rachel Moreno with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

CPR was in progress as the woman was taken to a local hospital. Officials said the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Another woman, who is believed to be the victim's caretaker, was taken to the hospital for shortness of breath.

The Spring Fire Department and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
