The statement from Sen. Scott comes just hours after Joe Biden announced he is dropping out of the presidential race and instead endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.

“If Joe Biden can’t run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign NOW,” Sen. Scott said in a post on X.

The 25th Amendment is titles “Presidential Disability and Succession.”

If invoked, the Vice President would then assume of the office of the presidency.

Sen. Scott alleged in a later post on X that Biden is now a threat to national security.

“Joe Biden shouldn’t be running our country if he can’t run for re-election,” Sen. Scott said. “This week, I’ll be introducing a resolution to urge the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment. Biden is not capable of fulfilling the requirements of the job, and that poses a threat to our national security.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also chimed in on social media, urging Biden to step down from the Oval Office.

“If Biden is unfit to run FOR the presidency, he is unfit to run THE presidency,” Abbott said on X. “American security is at risk both at home and abroad. A change in the oval office is essential – immediately – to ensure the safety of Americans and the security of our country.”

President Biden has not indicated if he will be stepping down as President of the United States.
