The bus was occupied by 19 immigration detainees and three guards from the GEO group, according to the sheriff’s office.

Of the 19 detainees, nine were transported by EMS to DeTar and Citizens Medical Center. The remaining 10 were transported to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office and held until the GEO Group sent a transport bus to pick them up.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the bus was headed to Laredo and missed its exit. The bus driver slammed on the brakes after noticing another exit.

An 18-wheeler following behind was unable to stop in time and ended up jackknifing. The trailer ended up hitting the back of the bus.

One of the occupants of the bus was pinned inside the bus by the legs, according to DPS. Another prisoner sustained two broken legs and a broken nose. He’s going to undergo surgery.

The remaining prisoners have since been released from the hospital, according to DPS.

The investigation continues and no citations have been issued at this time.
