County officials said floodwaters rose as high as 12 feet in some locations.

This River Plantation home is one of nearly 506 homes deemed un-inhabitable. Hundreds of volunteers are helping with the cleanup and demolition

“It’s a nightmare that won’t end. It just keeps going on and on,” said Mary J, a flood victim. “You can’t go to work. You can’t continue on with your life.”

Sandy Wilke said this is the second time in one year that her home was damaged by floodwaters, but this time, the water got as high as the ceiling.

Wilke said she’s had it with living in a low lying areas after dealing with two major floods.

“I don’t want to stay here. It’s been a year and I’m doing it again,” she said. “When it is it going to happen again?”

A block away from Wilkey, Montgomery County Constables were seen climbing onto the second floor balcony of a home to do a welfare check.

Here at the Home Owners Association Office, FEMA crews are on hand to help flood victims while donated food and supplies continue to be collected.

“We’ve had a truck from Chicago come,” said Jamie Goodman, the River Plantation board president. “Yesterday, we had a family from South Carolina bring a U-Haul full of things. We had people from Mississippi, California and then they’re staying and volunteering to help clean out the homes.”

Residents are praising the thousands of volunteers who have come out and help to either clean up or demolish the homes that have been impacted by the flood.
