Timeline of Rockets owner Les Alexander's impact on Houston

HOUSTON – Rockets owner Les Alexander is putting the team up for sale, CEO Tad Brown announced Monday.

In the wake of the announcement, we'll take a look at Alexander's time spent in Houston:

July 30, 1993 - Alexander assumed ownership over the Rockets.

1993-94 season - Houston won its first NBA Championship.

1994-95 season - Alexander traded Portland to acquire Houston native Clyde Drexler. The Rockets won their second championship in as many seasons.

1995 - Alexander established the Clutch City Foundation with the goal of providing help, hope and inspiration to those who might otherwise be forgotten. Over 22 years of active involvement, over $15 million has been raised for local charities.

1996 - Alexander signed Hakeem Olajuwon to a long-term extension and obtained Charles Barkley from Phoenix.

1998 - Alexander's organization was awarded the Leadership Houston "Leadership in Action" Award for outstanding community service to education, one year after winning the same award for outstanding community service to youth.

1999 - Alexander obtained the rights to Steve Francis from Vancouver. Francis became a three-time All-Star for the Rockets.

2001 - When the flooding from Tropical Storm Allison hit Houston, the franchise helped raise over $230,000 for flood relief by auctioning off memorabilia items.

2002 - The Rockets made history by drafting Yao Ming first overall. He became the first-ever player from an international league to be drafted first overall.

2004 - Alexander approved a seven-player trade with Orlando to bring in two-time scoring champion Tracy McGrady.

2006 - Alexander endorsed the acquisition of Shane Battier. The deal became a sounding board for the growing support of basketball analytics.

2012 - Alexander pulled off a blockbuster deal to acquire James Harden.

2013 - Alexander brought in eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard.

2016 - Alexander brought in former Coach of the Year Mike D'Antoni as the 13th head coach of the franchise and signed Harden to a four-year extension.

June 17, 2017 - Alexander announces that he is putting the team up for sale.
