Beto O'Rourke campaigns in Houston to kick off early voting

HOUSTON – Early voting opened Monday for midterm elections, and candidate Beto O’Rourke was at the polls to continue his people-powered campaign.

The El Paso congressman met with voters at eight polling locations throughout Harris County to kick off early voting.

O’Rourke’s schedule kicked off at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center on West Gray Street and will end at the Fort Bend County Rosenberg Annex in Reading Road.

KPRC2 met with O’Rourke at his second stop of the day in Spring, at the South County Community Center.

“As you can see there is a ton of excitement which means there are going to be a lot of people at the polls.” O’Rourke said. “I just wanted to come out and say thank you to everyone who is making this possible, and let them know I am committed to delivering for everyone in Texas  - Republican, Democrats, independents alike - in the United States Senate.”

Hundreds lined up to cast their votes regardless of party, and despite having to deal with long lines, people were in good spirits.

I’m really proud. I’m really proud of it,” said voter Heather Dizen. “When I’ve come here before for early voting I’ve not seen (the line) quite this far back, so I think it’s a great sign.”

Other voters seem to agree that the turnout shows the importance of the election.

“I think it’s great that there is a line because there’s are lot of people that are interested in what’s going on here and participating in voting,” said Angela Robinson, another voter. “I’m glad that there is a line."

When asked his opinion on the rally happening at Toyota Center in support of his opponent, Ted Cruz, O’Rourke told KPRC2 he welcomes the president and hopes he has a good visit. O’Rourke said he’s just focused on meeting with voters throughout the day.
