CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – Several families in Chambers County say there are blood worms in their water.
The houses affected are in the town of Old River-Winfree near Mount Belvieu.
Tara Miles was without water for two days and when it came on late Tuesday she said worms came out of her faucet and into the bathtub.
"It's outrageous," she said. "I just can't get past that we live in this day and age and this has happened. This is ridiculous. It's unheard of."
The city immediately began fielding phone calls from concerned citizens. The mayor contacted the town's water supplier, J&S Water.
"They haven't said why or how or even how it's possible worms got into the water system," said Mayor Joe Landry.
A representative from J&S Water released a statement that read: "We tested all sample points in the system but have not found any evidence of blood worms. We have taken precautions regardless. We flushed the system, ran chlorinated water through it and issued a boil water notice in the interest of protecting the public."
The affected residents all live in the same neighborhood. They are worried about the impact of the water on their health.
"Everybody's been drinking it. Everyone has been taking baths in it," said resident Karen Lowe. "No telling all the health issues we have regarding from it."
The city is offering bottled water to the residents. More water testing was scheduled for later in the week.
