HPD investigating body found in ditch in southwest Houston

HOUSTON

The Houston Police Department homicide division is investigating after a body was found in southwest Houston Wednesday.

Police were called around 8:30 a.m. to an area in the 11800 block of Riceville School Road, where investigators said neighbors found the body of a woman in a ditch. Police said her body had no belongings on it. According to police the woman is Paula Contreras, 38.

According to investigators, the woman may have been stabbed in a different location and then dumped in the ditch. However, it isn't clear how the body got there or the cause of death.

Police are also investigating the death of Contreras' husband, who was found hanged in his home at 8947 Westplace Drive on March 21 around 12:30 p.m.

Neighbors said police have been knocking on doors, asking residents if they have seen anything.

Many said the situation is unnerving because the street is considered to be in a quiet area, in which most neighbors know one another.

Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
