Dobie High School student accused of making threat on social media

HOUSTON – A Dobie High School student was arrested Saturday after authorities in Alabama identified them as a person who posted a threat on social media, officials said.

Pearland police said in a Facebook post that they were notified Friday about an image circulating on Snapchat that threatened a mass shooting at “DHS,” which was later determined to mean Dobie High School.

“While it is believed that many threats communicated via social media are ‘copy-and-paste’ threats, the Pearland Police Department will act swiftly to investigate these threats and prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law,” police said in the Facebook post.

Security was increased Monday at Dobie, Dawson and Pearland high schools as a precaution, officials said.

This is the latest in a rash of threats made to Houston-area schools after 17 people were killed in the Valentine's Day massacre at a Parkland, Florida, school.
