HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County commissioners have approved Debra Ibarra Mayfield as a judge to the county's civil courts at law?the first Latina to hold the position.
Mayfield was unanimously appointed as Judge of Harris County Civil Court-at-Law No. 1, filling the vacancy left by "Cactus" Jack Cagle. Cagle was appointed to a commission seat.

"I am humbled and honored to accept the appointment to serve as Judge of Harris County Civil Court-at-Law No. 1," Mayfield said. "I will strive to run the court as efficiently as my predecessor, and I will respect all lawyers who practice in my court."
Mayfield is a graduate of Texas A&M University and South Texas College of Law. She has been a partner in the Houston law firm of Rymer, Moore, Jackson and Echols. Mayfield was born and raised in Harris County's Precinct One where she and her family currently reside.
