HOUSTON – Houston area police officers are showing their support for their fallen brothers in blue.
They traveled to Baton Rouge on their motorcycles on Thursday, as the Louisiana capital continues to heal.
"It's a matter of brotherhood. We're all police officers and we want to support our fellow police officers in a time of need," John Zepeda, METRO police, said.
The deaths of Matthew Gerald, Montrell Jackson and Brad Garafola has devastated the nation.
"We need to have that mutual trust and showing each other that dignity and respect that we share through our community, which we serve each and every day," Robert Reyna with the Undefeated Law Enforcement Club said.
Both current, and former, local law enforcement officers left Houston to show support for the officers who were killed last weekend.
They left for Louisiana with Trey Ganem, the owner of a company that makes and donates caskets.
Ganem is donating three caskets to the families of the slain officers in hopes that a show of love will calm tension during a sensitive time.
"I want to take care of all of them. No matter what it is, it's my gift to them to help," Ganem said. "We all bleed red. I wish that there was more love and people need to think with their hearts and not with their emotion right now."
The journey began from the Precinct 1 Constable's Office in downtown and will end as they are greeted and welcomed by troopers at the state line.
Proof that true friendship knows no boundaries.
