HOUSTON – The Democratic primary for Harris County District Attorney is intensifying as the two front-runners, Kim Ogg and Sean Teare, actively seek crucial endorsements just over a month before the tightly contested race.
District Attorney Ogg strategically courted support from the Houston Police Officers Union earlier today, engaging in discussions with officers to secure their votes.
“To fail to show up to a law enforcement interview when your running as top law enforcement seems disrespectful but that’s me, I show up where I’m wanted and where I’m not wanted because I represent everybody,” she tells KPRC 2 Investigates Mario Diaz.
Meanwhile, her primary opponent, Sean Teare, garnered an endorsement in the Fifth Ward from former Mayor Sylvester Turner. Teare emphasizing the commitment to making Houston and Harris County safer.
Teare responded to DA Ogg’s comment saying, “It will not change in one iota the way that I work collaboratively with every law enforcement agency in this county.”
The Houston Police Officers Union, while refraining from a collective endorsement due to potential conflicts of interest, disclosed that leadership, particularly Executive Director Ray Hunt and Union President Doug Griffith, are supporting Ogg in the upcoming Democratic primary. The dynamics of these endorsements and the candidates’ interactions with key constituencies are poised to shape the narrative leading up to the crucial primary in March.
