HOUSTON, TX – KPRC 2 Investigates has learned 14 Houston police commanders have been contacted for written statements by the Internal Affairs Department, along with one Lieutenant. These statements are part of the IAD probe into the department’s scandal involving adult sex crimes investigations being suspended for the last eight years.

It’s been over three weeks since HPD Chief Troy Finner held his last public news conference focused on the scandal and the investigation. Internally, officers have complained they’re not getting much information about the investigation either.
“He’s [Finner] not speaking to the public. He’s not speaking to us, so I don’t know where we stand as far as this investigation goes other than what I get from my legal staff,” said Douglas Griffith, President of the Houston Police Officers’ Union.
Griffith told KPRC 2 Investigates reporter Mario Diaz that he believes the Internal Affairs investigators are not getting their questions about one of HPD’s biggest scandals in years to the proper people.
“We’re not asking questions of the right people. The chief needs to be asked some of the same questions that these commanders are being asked,” said Griffith.
The union also revealed some former commanders who’ve left the department and moved on or into the private sector in recent years have also been contacted.
In a February news conference, Chief Finner admitted he knew about the sex crimes investigations being suspended in 2021 and ordered last November that the practice be stopped.
