HOUSTON – A domestic violence situation turned deadly early Wednesday morning when a man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, who was 7 months pregnant, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said the suspect also shot the woman’s mother, sister and new boyfriend.
HPD Chief Art Acevedo said the first shooting was reported about 5:30 a.m. in the 6900 block of Landor Street near Tipton Street in northeast Houston. Acevedo said the suspect forced his way into the home where he shot the pregnant woman, her mother and sister.
Acevedo said the suspect then drove to the pregnant woman’s current boyfriend’s home in the 7100 block of Hedgewood Drive and shot him twice.
The pregnant woman and her baby did not survive the shooting, police said. The mother and sister of the woman were hospitalized and both are in serious but stable condition, Acevedo said. The current boyfriend is also in stable condition, police said.
The suspect, Kendrick Thomas, was found hiding in a cab of his uncle’s 18-wheeler truck around 2:18 p.m., Acevedo said. There was a 10-minute standoff between Thomas and police before Thomas shot and killed himself inside the cab, Acevedo said.
A neighbor told KPRC 2 the mother is in her 40s and her two daughters, in their 20s, and all lived at the home.
“She is very excited. That’ll be her first baby. Her mom was real excited because that was about to be her first grandbaby,” Tarnika Wiser said.
Wiser said the pregnant daughter recently left the baby’s father and moved back in with her mother.
“She wasn’t hiding, she was basically coming here because she was done with it and she needed to be around her loving parent, you know, in a safe house, period,” Wiser said.
