HOUSTON – It was a chaotic Wednesday for the U.S. Capital after angry supporters of President Donald Trump stormed into the federal building over election results.
The protestors forced a halt to congressional deliberations over challenges to Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory. The protesters fought with Capitol Police and then forced their way into the building, not long after a huge rally near the White House, according to The Associated Press.

I like many people voted for President Trump in the 2020 election and hoped for a different result. But violence and destruction is not the way to express your grievances. This is disgraceful and has to end. pic.twitter.com/AKGqJ0d26p

I have officially OBJECTED to the certification of the Electoral College.

I did this for the sanctity of our elections.
I did this for my constituents in Texas.
I did this for the future of America.
And I will CONTINUE to fight for our great President @realDonaldTrump!
Today is about the Constitution and fighting to restore confidence in our electoral process.

The American people deserve to know, with one hundred percent certainty, that our elections are safe and secure.
Safe, secure, fair elections are the cornerstone of democracy. The 2020 election has been called the most secure in our history.

.@realDonaldTrump call on YOUR supporters to stop this madness that YOU incited! The Constitution intended a peaceful transfer of power. This is seditious. Only a dictator or would-be dictator would encourage this. Which are you?
— Congressman Al Green (@RepAlGreen) January 6, 2021
This is wrong and not who we are. Be peaceful and use your 1st Amendment rights, but don’t start acting like the other side. We have a country to save and this doesn’t help anyone. https://t.co/3oUAPxuwi9

So protesters have breached the Capitol and we are on lockdown. We are safe, thank GOD for the Capitol Police. Remember our great Police? You know: that the Democrats want to defund? The Texas House understands: you can carry there. Should be able to here also! #2ndAmendment

I condemn any effort meant to overthrow a legitimate election including the violence occurring outside the Capitol. My staff and I are safe and we thank the Capitol Police for their efforts to protect us. Now is the time we must come together as a nation and move forward.

I’m currently sheltering in place. The Capitol building has been breached and both chambers are locked down.

1/3 I am in the US Capitol. I am safe and will not fear or leave because of this unwarranted and shameless violence. These actions are not serving well at all our precious Democracy, America.

2/3 We will stay on the floor until every vote is counted and President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are again confirmed as President and Vice President of the United States of America.

Peaceful protests are a fundamental right in the United States, but violence is absolutely unacceptable.

Respect our law enforcement officers’ orders. Vacate the Capitol and let the process unfold.
Anyone committing violent acts should be immediately arrested.
I was evacuated from the House floor and am currently safe.

President Trump’s assault on our democracy has caused the violence that is happening outside the US Capitol right now. My staff and I are safe and we thank the Capitol Police for protecting us. Now is the time to come together—not fan the dangerous flames of division.
— Rep. Marc Veasey (@RepVeasey) January 6, 2021
Whenever you think Trump has set a new low, he goes lower. What shameful, seditious conduct by this loser!
— Lloyd Doggett (@RepLloydDoggett) January 6, 2021
I am currently safe, but the Capitol has been breached and some colleagues are trapped there. President Trump has set loose violence on our Congress.
