According to his Twitter page @BigHatPosse, he checked into St. Joseph Medical Center’s ER on Christmas Eve for low oxygen due to COVID-19. He wrote that he received a COVID-19 antibody treatment and two doses of plasma. He was on “higher oxygen” and asked for prayers.

You fought hard, now it's time to rest.
I always enjoyed our many run in's. Regardless of what you were talking about, you always had a smile on your face. And that was infectious.
He was an awesome fan and an even better man.
Thinking back on the time that I had with @BigHatPosse I feel so lucky. Lucky to have known someone so kind, so caring and someone that was such a good friend to so many people. The entire city of Houston is mourning his loss right now. Love you Dave! pic.twitter.com/vu65QBIBdW

An amazing Houstonian and @UHCougars supporter passed away early this morning. @BigHatPosse was one on the main members of the Code Red Tailgaters for UH Football games. May he Rest In Peace. 🙏#ForeverCoog #DowntownDave pic.twitter.com/jVMkX5qvJo

The world lost a truly great one today! Dave Rojas, aka @BigHatPosse was truly the real deal. Thoughtful, caring, sincere, genuine and giving. I met and talked to him at a couple of Astros games. He took me to the U of H and Cincinnati game and he was the star of the show. 1/3
