Deputies said the girl and child were on the four-wheeler when they crashed into a black 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Arturo Guerrero. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the teen failed to yield at a yield sign and drove into the intersection at the same time as the SUV. Gonzalez said the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was speeding.
The crash caused the teen and the child to get ejected from the ATV, Gonzalez said. Both were transported to a hospital where the teen was pronounced dead.
According to Gonzalez, Guerrero is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries and the four passengers (ages 16 through 17) were not injured.
Authorities originally stated a woman and her child were involved in the ATV crash, but later corrected the information and said it was a teen and a child. The relationship between the girl and child is unclear.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Vehicular Crimes Division of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The family of the child has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.
