Is the Hotel Galvez being painted pink?
It’s one of many changes being made to the historic Galveston hotel that people are talking about after a picture published on a Galveston community social media page showed part of the now-white exterior covered in a coat of bright pink paint.

According to Houston Business Journal, the hotel will soon undergo renovations under new ownership by Mark Wyant, a Dallas-based businessman and owner of Seawall Hospitality LLC, and will become a part of the Marriott Autograph Collection.
Additionally, the hotel will be known as Grand Galvez Resort & Spa.
According to Houston Business Journal, Wyant’s plans for the hotel will include renovations of the rooms, common areas and hospitality settings, as well as adding entertainment venues, its report says.
And what about that pink paint? It’s the subject of hot debate among locals on Galveston Talk -- a Facebook group focused on all things Island-centric.
“Praying this is just an undercoat and something is going over it but the pink on the far right isn’t completely horrible. A tiny bit lighter with just a little tiny bit of orange mixed in and it could be stunning,” one person wrote.
According to the group member who shared the post, Hotel Galvez was originally a pink-like color that was created by mixing ground pink granite into the stucco finish, and resulted in a glowing appearance when illuminated by the sunrise.
“The original color was very pretty. I remember wondering why they painted it the color it is now... just now drove by to see if it looks better in person and no... it’s Pepto Bismol pink. It’s not how it used to look,” one person wrote in response.
According to Houston Business Journal, renderings of the renovations will be finalized and revealed in the coming weeks.
KPRC 2 has reached out and is awaiting comment from Hotel Galvez regarding the repainting of the exterior.
