HARRIS COUNTY – Three children and skeletal remains, possibly of another juvenile, were found inside an apartment in west Harris County, HCSO confirmed Sunday.
Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office did a welfare check at an apartment complex located at 3535 Green Crest, near Addicks Clodine and Westpark Tollway around 3:15 p.m., after a 15-year-old called and said his 9-year-old brother had been dead for a year and was in the next room.
“This is very shocking for me, very shocking and sad. And my thing is, where are the parents?” asked resident Kayla Williams.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the three children, who were ages 15, 10 and 7, were found inside of the apartment and may have been there for months, maybe even a year. Investigators said the 15-year-old told him his parents have not lived in the apartment for months.
“I haven’t been told they were necessarily locked in, but at that age, it appears they were basically fending for each other,” said Sheriff Gonzalez.
“We’d like to identify whoever are the parents, adults or next of kin,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the three children appeared to be malnourished and showed signs of physical injury. All three children were transported to the hospital to be assessed and treated for their injuries.
Child Protective Services has released the following statement:
“Child Protective Services is currently investigating alongside law enforcement to ensure the immediate safety of the children. The children are being evaluated at an area hospital and the Department of Family and Protective Services is seeking emergency custody of all three boys.”
