Montrose residents concerned about more gunfire in area days after bullets pierce nearby homes

HOUSTON – A neighbor in the Montrose area said his surveillance cameras captured what sounds like more gunfire just days after bullets pierced nearby homes.

“We are not very happy,” said homeowner Richard Nunez. “We are very concerned.”

In the latest video from early Monday morning, there is yelling heard followed by what sounds like a gunshot.

More than two minutes later, more yelling is heard about a block away followed by what sounds like another gunshot.

Nunez said the tense moments were captured by his surveillance cameras along Stanford Street on Dec. 6.

“Too close to home because of what previously happened last week,” he said.

He’s talking about a separate shooting from about five days earlier. Last week, neighbors said some of those bullets hit nearby homes.

“It is disturbing because the previous gunshots have entered homeowners’ homes and because our bedroom is right here,” Nunez said. “We’re sleeping right near the window. The bullets can enter and kill us in our sleep.”

Nunez said he has lived at his home for approximately 15 years. His wife heard the first shot on Monday, which woke her up. He doesn’t know if the latest shots hit anyone or anything. Nunez said he would like to see more patrols in the area.

Houston Police said people should call them if they hear gunshots in the area or bullets have damaged their property.

Due to concerns about violence and fights, Nunez said some neighbors are looking into getting private security to monitor the area overnight.
