And there are a select few names that have the stuff of magic in them for parents-to-be.

Here are the names that have that special something for the moms and dads of Houston and Texas, based on information released by the Houston Health Department and Names.org.
(In case you’re wondering this information is based on the Houston Health Department’s Bureau of Vital Statistics and the Social Security Administration data on births. Names.org said it also bakes in information from user interest on its website.)
Here are the top 10 baby names of 2021 from the Houston Health Department:
Boys:
- Liam - 491
- Noah - 349
- Mateo - 239
- Sebastian - 237
- Ethan - 225
- Elijah - 223
- Daniel - 218
- Dylan - 214
- Oliver - 212
- Santiago - 207
Girls:
- Charlotte - 354
- Ava - 319
- Camila - 299
- Sophia - 255
- Sofia - 251
- Isabella - 245
- Emma - 181
- Olivia - 181
- Amelia - 147
- Evelyn - 139
Liam, Noah, and Mateo were also the top three boy names in 2020. Charlotte was number ten in 2020 with Olivia, Emma, and Camila topping the list.
In 2021 there were 60,631 birth certificates filed with the health department compared to 61,649 in 2020.
Here are the top baby names for the state based on Names.org. And here’s its national top 10 list. Names.org notes the five names unique to Texas are Mateo, Sebastian, Santiago, Daniel, and Julian.
For girls, Olivia, Camila, and Emma top the list. Luna is a new name on the list this year.
Eight of Texas’s top 10 girl’s names are also on the national top 10 list, the two names unique to Texas are Camila and Sofia.
