BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – An Alvin playground was the target of racist graffiti.
Kids of all ages, colors and backgrounds play at Sealy Park. Community members said that hateful messages spray-painted there don’t not represent how they feel.
“It’s based on ignorance,” park visitor Kennon Miskell told KPRC 2′s Bill Barajas.
Miskell was at the park Sunday and was happy to see that the park had been cleaned up, but was disappointed it had been vandalized.
“It’s good it’s cleaned up. It’s stupid that they put it there to begin with.”
Arnetta Murray, HISD teacher and councilwoman in Brazoria County’s Iowa Colony, first saw the vandalism in a post on a neighborhood Facebook page. She was outraged.
“I was just shocked,” Murray said. “And all I did was share it and when I shared it I guess a few people weren’t happy with it, and then, doing Juneteenth, I think it was kind of disrespectful.”
The Facebook post was shared a number of times. A local pressure washing company Better Views Services saw the post and volunteered to clean up the mess.
