DALLAS – Flight operations have been suspended at Dallas Love Field Airport after an officer shot a woman who began firing in a terminal Monday, according to airport officials Monday.
Officials say travelers should check with their airline for the latest updates on their flight status.
According to Houston Airports, only three flights to and from Dallas Love Field have been cancelled.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to the Dallas Police Department, around 10:59 a.m., a 37-year woman entered the Southwest Airlines terminal ticket counter area and went into the restroom. When she came out, she was wearing a hoodie and armed with a handgun.
The woman fired several rounds, possibly aiming at the ceiling.
An officer was in the area and quickly engaged with the suspect, shooting her in the lower extremities, according to police. She was taken to the hospital. Her condition was not known.
No passengers or officers were injured.
When the situation began, police were seen blocking off an entrance to the airport and an ambulance was seen leaving the terminal.
NBC 5 reported that Max Geron, Chief of Police in Rockwall, said a number of shots were heard near a baggage or ticket counter area. He said he grabbed his kids and that the TSA agents responded quickly by shuffling travelers into secure areas, NBC 5 said.
People at the airport were evacuated and sequestered in an outdoor location while the scene was active.
Just got evacuated out of Love Field after an apparent shooting. Family is safe. TSA did a great job.

The FAA said all flights inbound to Dallas Love are currently being held at their departure location until 12:30 p.m., NBC 5 reported. Planes that have landed are currently being held on the apron and are not proceeding to gates.
TSA said in a tweet that all passengers will be rescreened following the shooting.
Travel alert - @DallasLoveField @TSA is in the process of rescreening all travelers through airport security checkpoint. Understand that will take time, so be patient because number of passengers at checkpoint has just increased exponentially.
