Man accused of shooting at deputy constables during chase charged with attempted murder: Pct. 4

HOUSTON – A suspect has been charged with attempted capital murder after shooting at Precinct 4 deputy constables during a high-speed chase in north Harris County Friday, authorities said.

It happened around 1:03 a.m. when authorities said a Precinct 4 sergeant attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle near 12600 Jones Rd. Investigators said the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph.

Pct. 4 said the suspect, who has been identified as Jyquon Mackey, 22, fired around three shots while attempting to get onto Highway 249 from Grant Road. No one was hit by the gunfire, investigators said. Constable deputies reportedly backed off the suspect and a Department of Public Safety Air Unit witnessed the suspect’s vehicle crash into another vehicle at Highway 249 and Antoine Drive. The suspect’s vehicle flipped onto its roof from the impact of the crash, Pct. 4 said.

Witnesses said they saw Mackey get out with a pistol and run away. With the assistance of a K-9 and the DPS Air Unit, Mackey was located nearby in the woods, investigators said. The K-9 made contact with the suspect and he was reportedly taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Authorities said the K-9 located the weapon used to shoot at the deputy constables in a nearby ditch. Upon investigating, deputy constables said they discovered the weapon was illegally converted to be fully automatic. The vehicle Mackey reportedly drove during the chase was also stolen, investigators said.

Pct. 4 said the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.

Mackey has been charged with attempted capital murder, evading in a motor vehicle, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
