The Houston Police Department identified that man as Harrison Brown. He was 32 years old.

Police said Brown was armed when he was shot and killed by law enforcement in the 1800 block of El Paseo Street about 8:25 a.m. on Sept. 2.

Officers with the U. S. Marshall’s Office, Harris County Constable Precinct Five and the Texas Department of Public Safety Office of Inspector General all discharged their duty weapons, according to a Houston Police Department news release. None of the officers were injured in this incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sgt. R. Flores, and Detectives R. Anderson, J. Turner and I. Ulloa said Brown died after members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force attempted to serve a felony warrant at an apartment complex. When they located Brown, who was wanted out of South Carolina for aggravated robbery, agents with the U.S. Marshals Office performed a “vehicle containment technique” to prevent him from fleeing in the vehicle.

“Officers wearing clearly marked tactical gear exited their vehicles and attempted to approach the suspect’s vehicle,” the news release read. “The suspect, who was seated in the driver seat of the vehicle, pressed the accelerator in an effort to flee but was only able to spin the tires. The suspect then displayed a firearm and several officers with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force discharged their weapons. The suspect was struck more than one time and was pronounced deceased on the scene.”

HPD noted that no HPD officers discharged their duty weapons in this incident.

No one else was hurt during this incident.

HPD noted that, as is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Throughout 2022, Houston police have released body camera footage of officer-involved shootings. KPRC 2 will share the video as soon as it is released to the media.
