Deputies attempted to shut down US-290 during the race, but before they could secure the roads, a Honda driver -- who was allegedly not paying attention -- slammed into a vehicle that was stopped in a line of traffic, causing a multi-vehicle crash.
A woman was taken to the hospital via LifeFlight in critical condition and two others were transported by ambulance in stable condition.
The 10 vehicles that were racing were issued citations, deputies said.
