Support is low for accommodating transgender students in public schools, according to a new national survey by the market research and data analytics firm, YouGov.
A majority of participants said transgender athletes should be restricted to participating only as the gender they were assigned at birth. Half said they actively disagree with allowing public school students to use the bathroom of their choice.
The national survey was conducted in August and commissioned for the Deseret News and Brigham Young University’s Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy. In addition to gender identity, the survey gauged opinions on policy issues including gun rights, abortion and immigration.
KPRC 2 News Today interviewed Executive Director of Deseret National Hal Boyd and Deseret team member, Lois Collins, about the survey. Watch the interview in the video player above.
