Teen believed to be 13 shot by 18-year-old in Fort Bend County, deputies say

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – An investigation is underway after a teen who is believed to be 13 years old was shot by an 18-year-old in Fort Bend County Monday, deputies said.

Community Fire Department officials and deputies from Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 6900 block of Great Oaks Shadow around 10:15 p.m.

Officials said when they arrived at the scene, they located the victim, who is believed to be 13, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim was transported to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, FBCSO said.

Investigators said preliminarily it appeared the victim and another teen were playing with a firearm inside the residence when it is believed they ended up tussling over the gun. Deputies said the other teen, who is 18, then fired at the victim, hitting him in his abdomen.

The teen that fired the gun fled the scene and the victim’s brother brought him back to the residence, investigators said.

Deputies said they are trying to determine the sequence of events and verify that the shooting is, in fact, an accident.
