LIVINGSTON, Texas – Two inmates who escaped a prisoner bus Friday afternoon with a firearm near Livingston have been captured, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
At 1:20 p.m., one of two contract prisoner buses from Houston, while transporting inmates to a correctional facility in Louisiana, became disabled on State Hwy 190 E, near FM 1276, according to deputies.
Both buses stopped to repair the tire and at some point during the stop, two of the inmates escaped from the bus and fled into a wooded area, according to the Sheriff’s Office. One of the escaped inmates also grabbed an unsecured firearm from the front of the bus.
Deputies said officers were able to find and capture the inmates and recovered the firearm in the wood line. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Both inmates were taken to the Polk County Jail and charged with felony Escape. This incident is still under investigation and additional charges are pending at this time.
Texas DPS units and officers from the Alabama-Coushatta Police Department also assisted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office during the incident.
