The family and close friends of a Spring teenager are mourning his tragic and sudden death, days after he was killed in a speeding crash on his ATV.
16-year-old Gian Carlo Iragorri was speeding on his ATV near Rayford Road just west of the Grand Parkway Thursday after school when state troopers say he hit a dip and the ATV flew into the air before it landed on top of him and killed him at the scene. His parents said he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time.
“I can’t describe the amount of pain we feel,” his father Juan Iragorri told KPRC 2. “He was my guidance...he was...the other part of my heart.”
His father called Gian Carlo the best kid in the world, one filled with joy and care, who always listened to his parents and helped take care of his siblings.
But one thing Juan said Gian Carlo didn’t always listen about was how fast he drove, his dad said.
“I can’t deny it. He loved going fast,” Juan Iragorri said.
According to TxDOT, speeding accounted for one in three traffic deaths across the state in 2021. It was the second deadliest year on record on Texas roads.
Gian Carlo’s family placed a wooden cross at the crash site with his name on it. His large group of high school friends joined the family in support. Now his parents hope that others can learn from his death.
“14, 15, 16-year-old kids, they all think they’re invincible. They think they’re not going to get hurt. But it happens, it is real,” Juan Iragorri said. “It is real that speed kills.”
